Progressive Action Endorses Meg Bye in Minnesota Legislative House District 4B
Progressive Action Endorses Meg Bye in Minnesota Legislative House District 4B
Meg Bye of Loon Lake Township has received the endorsement of Progressive Action in her candidacy for Minnesota’s House District 4B legislative race. The 4B District includes the southern half of Cass County, half of Hubbard County, and the northern part of Crow Wing County.
Bye, a former member of the Duluth City Council, was unanimously endorsed by the DFL and is not opposed by any other Democratic candidates. Her Republican opponent is incumbent Larry Howes.
“I am encouraged and delighted by the endorsement by Progressive Action,” Meg Bye said. “I know how thoughtful and committed that Progressive Action is concerning the issues that I care deeply about, including peace, justice, public investment in a sustainable future and a healthy planet.”
Bye says the key issues for her in this campaign are “the need to fairly and sufficiently fund our public schools, preserve and restore our water and forest resources, and to provide affordable health care for all. These are issues which are important to Minnesotans no matter where we may live, and working for them will strengthen our entire state.”
Bye’s previous experience includes working as the city of Duluth’s human rights officer, serving on the state’s Housing Finance Agency Board, serving on the Governor’s crime commission, the first woman president of the League of Minnesota Cities, the director of a Duluth area food bank, and working as a mediator in the court system. Bye is also a former mathematics teacher, and has taught Community Education classes in Pequot Lakes.
Meg and her husband Don have long ties to the region, splitting time between Loon Lake Township and Duluth for the past twenty years. Bye lived in the region full time while her son attended Pequot Lakes High School, and the Byes now again live in the area full-time.
According to Marc Fink, Progressive Action Steering Committee member, the grassroots political action organization endorsed Bye because of her extensive experience, commitment to public schools, strong environmental protection, and affordable health care for everyone.
Progressive Action is a group of volunteers in Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin formed after the death of Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone to continue his work on issues such as affordable housing, living wages, and electing progressives to office.
