Progressive Action Endorses Nick Milroy for Wisconsin’s 73rd Assembly District
Progressive Action of Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin has endorsed Nick Milroy in his candidacy for Wisconsin’s 73rd Assembly District. The seat is open, following Assemblyman Frank Boyle’s announcement that he is retiring after 22 years in the office. Progressive Action extended the endorsement to Milroy following a written screening process.
In that screening, Milroy said the three most critical issues facing the 73rd Assembly District include livable-wage jobs, health care, and the state’s shift of revenue collection onto homeowners.
“The 73rd Assembly District is fortunate to have a candidate like Nick Milroy,” Progressive Action President Barb Olsen commented. “He’s been a great public servant and activist for years, and Progressive Action is proud to give him our endorsement.”
Milroy has served on the St. Louis River TMDL Partnership Board of Directors, currently serves as a public representative to the Lake Superior Binational Forum, and is serving his second term as a City Councilor in Superior. While on the Council, he was instrumental in protecting Clough Island and in ensuring that the Great Lakes Water Compact passed the Wisconsin State Legislature.
Nick Milroy was born and raised in Superior, served in the Navy in the Persian Gulf, and received his bachelor degree from UW-Superior in aquatic biology. For the last eight years, he has worked with American Indian communities as a fishery biologist.
Milroy supports the Murphy Oil expansion, saying in the Progressive Action screening, “Murphy Oil is the economic backbone of Douglas County. I believe that we can create good paying jobs while protecting our environment. My experience working side by side with industry and environmental interests will be invaluable to getting the job done right.”
Nick Milroy also supports smoke-free workplaces and says he will make that issue a priority if elected, along with the passage of “Leah’s Law,” to create a violent offender registry.
Progressive Action’s website (www.prog-action.org) will be posting Milroy’s full answers to its screening questions.
