Good Food, Good Music, Good Politics… Who Could Ask for More?!
Progressive Action’s “Extravaganza!” a huge success
The Progressive Action Steering Committee has been lying in the weeds a bit, after
April’s wildly successful “Spaghetti Dinner Extravaganza and Political Rally.” But we want to fill everyone in on what was an enjoyable night and a financially successful one as well... an event that brought us together and that will help Progressive Action support future progressive candidates and future Progressive Action activities.
It was standing-room-only, with great speeches by U.S. Senate candidate Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer and St. Louis County Attorney Melanie Ford, fabulous food, stupendous music by the duo Mad About Jane, a jam-packed silent auction, a fun kids' activity table, and a great opportunity to hobnob with new and old friends. That night, we had the chance to hear as well from some friends who've been elected to office and who have been endorsed in the past by PA: Tony Cuneo, Steve O'Neil, Sharla Gardner, and Nancy Nielsen.
**** With a special note that at our event that night, St. Louis County Commissioner Steve O'Neil announced he is running for re-election! After which he donned an apron and washed dishes. What a guy! *****
Also in the crowd that night were retiring WI Assemblyman Frank Boyle and Douglas County Board member Dave Conley, who is also a member of the PA Steering Committee. (Let us know if we’re forgetting anyone!)
The Progressive Action Steering Committee would like to send a special thank you to the local businesses that donated food for the event:
- Chester Creek Cafe, for the wonderful salad!
- Positively Third Street Bakery, for the great bread!
- European Bakery, for the great bread!
Please frequent these businesses to show appreciation for their support. And to book the musical duo Mad About Jane for your upcoming event, contact Jim Madison at jameswilfred@frontiernet.net.
We'd like to thank the many other businesses who kindly contributed to the Progressive Action Extravaganza either this time 'round or in the past, with donations to our silent auction. We hope you'll keep these folks in mind as well in your shopping future!

I'd also like to thank the members of the Progressive Action Steering Committee for all their hard work in making the event happen. Progressive Action, as you know, is an all-volunteer organization.
We'd like to send a thank you most especially to Progressive Action Steering Committee member HAL MOORE for cooking for all 200 attendees and handling the financial headaches!! And to IVER BOGEN for taking care of a million details and getting the word out to a huge citywide group of people! And to PATRICK BOYLE for calling Progressive Action members to attend, working all night as assistant chef, and heading the cleanup team after the event right on down to the floor-mopping! And to
PETE JOHNSON for Progressive Action member-calling, securing auction items, setting up all the tables, selling tickets at the door, and dashing from one end of town to another picking up all the tidbits we needed to make the night a success! And to DAVE CONLEY for fastidiously measuring the butcher paper to cover every single one of those dining tables plus helping with cleanup!
A thank you as well to the many volunteers who saved our bacon on that eve, including Sandy Johnson, Deb Taylor, Kate Cartier, and my mother ("Bunny") who baked the pies!
If you missed the 2008 Spaghetti Extravaganza, we hope you'll join us next time 'round for a fun and informative occasion. And in the meantime--especially as the election season grows closer--please stay tuned for future Progressive Action events, and let us know if YOU would like to help!
Thanks,
Barb Olsen
