Progressive Action Elects Two New Steering Committee Members

At its most recent membership meeting, Progressive Action members elected Patrick Boyle as the Steering Committee’s Youth Representative, representing the area’s young adults and students, and Peter Johnson as its Labor Representative, representing the area’s working families.

Patrick Boyle

Patrick BoylePatrick Boyle grew up south of Superior in the politically active Boyle family, where, Boyle says, one of his earliest memories is attending a rally for Jimmy Carter. He has worked on many political campaigns, including all eleven of his father, Frank Boyle’s, campaigns for the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Boyle earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and then a Master’s degree in nursing from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. He is now a nurse practitioner with the Fond du Lac tribal clinics. Boyle also serves as a precinct chair and on the city committee in the 7th Senate District DFL. He lives with his wife and daughter in Duluth.

Peter Johnson

Peter JohnsonPeter Johnson grew up in Two Harbors and attended college at St. Cloud State University. He is a firefighter for the City of Duluth and a member of the Duluth Professional Firefighters Union. Prior to his service with the Duluth Fire Department, Johnson served for more than three years as a firefighter/paramedic in a suburb of Denver, Colorado.

Mr. Johnson has been active in this political campaign season and co-moderated Progressive Action’s most recent candidate forum, aired on KUMD-FM radio and PACT-TV. Peter enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities, from camping to hiking to rock climbing. He lives in the Woodland neighborhood in Duluth with his girlfriend and three dogs.

“We in Progressive Action feel fortunate to have these two fine new members on our Steering Committee,” Progressive Action President Barb Olsen commented. “They bring with them a lifelong interest in politics, experience in the medical field, a strong connection to the Native American Community, a working knowledge of our local labor unions, and an understanding of the challenges working families face today. We look forward to the assets these new Steering Committee members will bring to our grassroots political organization.”
